The purpose of this course is to provide a working knowledge of GIS techniques, concepts, and systems for students in environment, resource management, and land use. The course will consist of three main components. The first part will be a review of GIS concepts, including data sources and automation, geoprocessing, data base management systems, and spatial analysis. The second part will be case studies of GIS for natural resource applications and the interrelation of GIS with other resource management methods and technologies. The third part will cover GIS implementation, including project planning, needs assessment, RFPs, data base management, and legal and economic considerations.
